Zeelandia is ready for a titanium dioxide-free era

Recently the European Commission proposed to remove titanium dioxide (E171) from the closed list of allowed additives in the EU.

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is a naturally occurring oxide of titanium, sourced from minerals. It is used in a wide range of goods, such as toothpaste and hygiene and pharmaceutical products. Titanium dioxide is also widely used in the food industry as an additive (E171), because of its colour and opacifying properties. In bakery, it is being used in e.g. water-based bakery fillings, instant custard mixes and various white coverings.

In the last few years however, the use of E171 in food products has been the subject of debate. In the European Union titanium dioxide will be deleted from the 1st of January 2022 from the allowed list of colours in foodstuff and from the 1st of July there is a complete ban for putting on shelves products containing titanium dioxide.

For the last years Zeelandia has been working on developing solutions without titanium dioxide. We are prepared with our technical solutions and we adapted and developed numerous products free of TiO2. We are able to offer solutions without the additive well in time to assure compliance with the new EU legislation.
