Innovation is key

The papers today are full of articles about innovation. Modernisation is a necessity in our sector too, mainly because of the price war in the foodstuffs industry. To avoid this pressure we have to innovate.

Innovation is nothing new. Car manufacturer Henry Ford was already concerned with this in the previous century. If he had asked his customers then what they wanted, they would probably have said: “A faster horse!” No-one at the time would have come up with the idea of a car.

This is how we should look at innovation in our branch. Nowadays we eat at different times and the eating experience is very different. Just take the way we eat out. A lot of under-40s no longer have the traditional three meals a day. We must respond to this. With new products or improved existing products.

At Zeelandia we have stressed the importance of innovation for over 100 years now. We are extremely proud of our fully revamped R&D department, which we hope will enable us to respond even better to bread-and-butter demand. From all our international customers.

For us, innovation is not a magic word. It is a must.
