Zeelandia presents new muffin at EU Conference

On February 22 and 23, the Dutch Presidency Conference on Food Product Improvement took place in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The Dutch minister of Health, Welfare and Sport hosted this high-level, multi-stakeholder conference, titled “Make the healthy choice easy”. Zeelandia presented a new, very tasty low-fat muffin at this conference.

During the conference, public and private partners discussed how to combine efforts to take food product improvement to the next level. Topics such as salt reduction, reduction of saturated fat and of sugar in food products were high on the agenda.

In addition to talks, European food producers were invited to showcase what steps they have already taken in product improvement. During the breaks, participants could sample products from a select group of companies.

Zeelandia presented a brand-new, yet-to-be introduced product at this conference: the Blueberry Delight Muffin, made with real blueberries. It has less than half of the fat and almost one-third less sugar compared to the regular (reference) product.

The attendees of the EU Food Product Improvement Conference that sampled this new muffin from Zeelandia found it to be soft, moist and great-tasting. They were pleasantly surprised to find out that it contained 60% less fat and 37% less saturated fat.

As such, this new muffin could well be the answer to consumer demand for healthier products and for (small) indulgences, combined. The ‘permissible snack’, as some have dubbed it.
